Scalable Malware File Detection

When adding anti-malware capabilities into gateway or cloudbased architectures, there are often several considerations beyond just the detection efficacy of the technology involved. Whilst high efficacy is a given, other considerations come into play when integrating into certain situations:

Cloud Architectures

Whilst on the surface of it, cloud architectures give boundless scope for processing power and resources. In reality, the costs of deploying multiple instances can rapidly change the economics in delivering a service with a good user experience. All this must be achieved with the ability to process epic volumes of data each day without faltering.

Hardware Appliances

Hardware based solutions often have many constraints when it comes to both resources and customized platforms. Memory capacity is always at a premium when there are many different engines all providing a piece of the puzzle. Also, there are many specialized platforms that exist meaning that any engine will have to be ported.

Supremely Scalable

  • Varist’s Malware Detection Engine is extremely scalable being deployed some the world’s biggest technology companies in their cloud architecture. Tried and test over many years, our engine can scan epic proportions of data every day. All the time whilst maintaining high detection efficacy.

Extremely Fast

  • Due to the modular engine design, Varist Malware Detection engine can not only scan millions of files per day without breaking a sweat, it can do so in record time with no other similar engine able to scan real-world traffic as fast meaning less time waiting for end-users and less computing resources needed. In fact, when one large software customer deployed our technology to replace another, their scanning platform resource needs reduced by a half!

Small Footprint

  • All of Varist’s products are continually optimized to ensure our footprint is at an absolute minimum. This is a process that continually revisit to ensure that whilst we can detect new threats, there is minimal impact on our performance. Our core engine is ~2M and average signature database size being <120MB. This makes it possible to run several instances of our engine on the same platform further increasing performance whilst staying on top of costs.
